I used on my stovetop and had to use a little more elbow grease, but it got the job done without harmful, unpleasant chemicals. I did not have the lingering smell or irritation on my hands after using, despite washing them. A nice fresh non-overwhelming smell lingered for a little bit. This is a pleasant smelling detergent, and I feel good about the fact that I'm not sending toxic chemicals into the waste water. It cleans clothes as well as anything I've ever used.
